Loyal and Mike have competed in sports at all levels and have endured athletic injuries over the years. One of the first things they discovered after entering the practice of law is that non-athletes are often treated differently than athletes by the medical community when it comes to treatment and rehabilitation. Athletes receive much more proactive care and aggressive treatment with the goal of getting them back to the field, court or track, whereas non-athletes often receive a more conservative course of treatment that prevents them from returning to work and recovering as soon as possible.
Aware of this disparity in medical care, Mike and Loyal actively work with their clients and doctors to create aggressive rehabilitation plans designed to get them back on their feet. Mike and Loyal continually consult with physicians and rehabilitation specialists to keep abreast on cutting edge medical advances, and use this knowledge to help their clients receive the best care possible.
Bikes

Mike has been involved in competitive bike racing for the last fifteen years. He is currently a member of the 2010 Zenn Racing Team and races at the Masters level.
Logging thousands of miles a year, Mike is intimately aware of the conflict that exists between motor
vehicles and bicycles. Mike is passionate about advocating on behalf of cyclists, whether they ride competitively or purely for pleasure.
In additional to handling bicycle cases involving motor vehicles, Mike recently handled a bike versus bike accident that occurred on the American River trail, which he was able to settle for the other rider’s homeowner policy limits of a half million dollars. Most attorneys would have categorized this as a primary assumption of risk case, with no liability on the part of either rider, but due to Mike’s unique understanding of bike protocol and the law, he was able to successfully advocate on behalf of his client and obtain this settlement.
Dogs

Civil Code section 3342, California's dog bite statute, provides that the owner of a dog is liable to anyone bitten by his or her dog who is in a public place, or lawfully in a private place, including the dog owner's property, regardless of whether the dog has ever bitten anyone before and regardless of whether the owner knew the dog had bitten anyone before.
While pit bulls are among the most notorious of dog breeds, any dog, including a normally docile and friendly household pet, can become dangerous under certain circumstances. Serious, unprovoked dog bites or animal attacks can occur at any time and any place without warning.
Mike and Loyal have successfully handled numerous dog bite cases. They understand that while some dogs have a dangerous propensity, some dog bites occur as a result of an owner’s or caretaker’s neglect or negligent supervision of a dog. For example, most dogs are extremely territorial and may act out to protect a family member, or may act aggressively around food. In some cases, there may be liability, outside of that encompassed by the dog bite statute, where a dog jumps on or chases a person.
